Walter Pisco Limones

Alumni

From Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Walter Pisco has felt a strong attraction for marine life since he was young. Growing up around the sea, interacting with animals, especially sharks, was an essential part of his life. When he worked as a dive guide, he realized that the sea was his biggest passion, leading him to become involved with Ecology Project International (EPI), where he has been a collaborator for the past few years. Thanks to his participation with EPI, Walter came to Mexico to study his passion: marine biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur. In 2016 he joined Pelagios Kakunjá participating on various projects, like land and underwater surveys in Cabo Pulmo National Park and tagging hammerhead sharks in Sinaloa. In 2020 he finished his bachelor’s thesis research project about hammerhead sharks in the Gulf of California, which he carried out at Pelagios with Dr. James Ketchum.
