Abstract
Depicted in popular culture as mindless killing machines, sharks prove on closer study to be beautiful, graceful animals, each with its own distinct personality and habits. As they swim among sharks and track their patterns of migration, an international team of scientists discover that patterns of magnetic ridges in the ocean floor help guide the sharks’ navigation as they commute to feeding grounds, migrate over long distances, or find their way to less-trafficked areas to give birth.
