Abel finished his master studies in Management of Marine Resources in the Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas (CICIMAR), with a research about the Pacific sharpnose shark (Rhizoprionodon longurio) in La Paz Bay as a breeding area. He has participated in research projects on shark fisheries in the Pacific for the Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenda (CICESE), and worked with sharks in the Acuario del Zoológico de Guadalajara. He became a student of Pelagios Kakunjá in 2013, when he was working on his bachelor’s thesis about shark fisheries in the coasts of Baja California Sur, under the supervision of Dr. James Ketchum. After concluding his bachelor’s and master’s thesis research at Pelagios Kakunjá, he became a staff member, from 2017 to 2022, serving as data analyst, field assistant and shark tagging coordinator.
