Lucien Besnard

Alumni

A native of Paris and raised in the south of France on the Mediterranean coast, Lucien has always been fascinated by marine life and especially sharks. This interest brought him naturally toward studies in biology and ecology of marine organisms. His love for travelling brought him to study in Canada and across Europe and led him in Mexico where he developed his PhD Project with Pelagios Kakunjá. He finished his PhD in a collaborative project between his university  in France (University of Western Brittany) and Pelagios Kakunjá along with other research centres in Baja California Sur (CIBNOR and CICIMAR). He contributed new knowledge about the feeding ecology and foraging habits of poorly studied sharks’ population in Baja California Sur, Mexico, and looked at the potential special role of the Marine Protected Area of Cabo Pulmo and explore possible new biomarkers in the study of sharks at a global scale.
