Dr. María del Carmen Blázquez
Researcher
María is a trained biologist that conducted her studies in Spain. Now she works as a researcher at the Centro de Investigaciones Biologicas del Noroeste en La Paz, B.C.S., Mexico and is an associate scientist at Pelagios Kakunjá as of 2016. Her research focus on the behavioral ecology and conservation of vertebrates. She has over 20 years of work experience studying in the arid environment of the Baja California Peninsula and the islands of the Gulf of California. Her main interest is the study of variability in the behavior of individuals, which gives the keys to change the fitness of the individuals, and assess environmental factors that modulate these behaviors. Originally focused on reptiles, especially endemic and endangered, the study of their behavior established a collaboration in work with other groups of vertebrates like birds, mammals, and fish. She is a person who loves life in the open air and the sea. She likes to run, bike and everything that has to do with water (swimming, diving, sailing, kayaking.) At home she likes to read and take care of her garden.
